As long as I'm sharing mods, with XCom 2 coming, I'[d be remiss not to badger people to try this out.


It's a whole new game, imho.
Alien pods are mixed, "commanders" are bigger, badder and scarier and you are required to have a deep roster of soldiers to deal with fatigue and casualties.

The "cosmetic" additions are hit and miss in quality (I *want* to have an English Sniper, but the audio is just such comparably poor quality) but overall it *feels* much more like an xcom game.
Less "lucky" and more "death is inevitable because you will fuck up"

Anyone that wants to try it should do it on the lowest difficulty available and probably pick the shortened length option if they want to finish it before XCom2 comes out :3

I should probably link the wiki (http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Long_War) too.

There are essentially 8 classes (http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Soldiers_%28Long_War%29) with a myriad of options, I found the wiki somewhat essential just to break through the density of new information :P
Building a squad for a mission becomes damn tactical all on it's own without godmode snipers, but the tools and options you get make it a pleasure.

I'm a few hours into the mod now and like it very much so far. Trying to build up specialization for the entire squad, then I will try to make a few elites. But with the fatigue system that's not an easy task to do. Also there is way more depth in the tactical part of the game and in the base building part. I read a review from the initial developer of XCOM stating the vanilla game is just a 20hr introduction to this mod. Quite strikingly put tbh. :) Can't thank you enough for pointing this out.
